Final Thoughts
I went to a retreat a few years ago and when we neared the end it was said, “While you’ve been here, you have changed, but the world you left has remained the same.” This quote reminds of the experience we all have shared together these 3 weeks. I am thankful for everyone who shared pieces of themselves and their thoughts, contributing to the learning and the challenges this course offered each of us. I know that all of us have been changed.
Now that we have reached the end of this class, we stand on the brink of the new beginnings of this program, and of the transformation we are all undergoing to make us into effective teachers, passionate about bringing change. We have changed — the world is still the same. So now, it’s up to us to actively, intentionally, and unswervingly hold fast what to we know to be true and effect the change needed. We stand at the beginning of the movement that will touch generations.
It is the beginning of greatness….

I agree with the way you have summed up this Maymester course. I, too, believe that we are at the beginning of something new and great. Knowledge is the first step; however, I know that I’ve got to keep learning and to begin acting to remain true and intentional. – Kelley M.

Hey Allison,
I’ve enjoyed reading your posts over the past couple weeks. You have shown an admirable openess to challenging your own beliefs. The world around us will not change unless we are not willing to set an example by showing that we are also able to change in our beliefs.
Your posts share a common sense of urgency and an eagerness to turn thoughts into action. This kind of energy amongst us will be required if we are going to be able to tackle the systemic dilemas that we face within the public school system. Looking forward to working with you as we try and address these dilemas.

I know…I already feel inspired to begin the changes that need to occur! I’m prepard to begin the rest of our journey to become the teachers our students need. The education of our children is in our hands, and our future is in theirs. Let’s do all we can to ensure its greatness.
